Listen in as we share a community poem created months ago during Learn Freely Fest, now released to commemorate National Poetry Month!
This community poem was facilitated by poet Monifa Lemons during the Learn Freely Fest on August 12, 2023, at Richland Library Main, where participants from the public collaborated to create a poem about the library. The voices of Elisa D. from Richland Library Southeast, Charlotte D. from Richland Library Cooper, and Jennifer Bartell Boykin City of Columbia Poet Laureate, come together to bring this ode to the library to life.

La biblioteca es magica.
All are welcome here
to
create,
learn,
build community,
discover your true self.
She plays as I watch
and read to her and myself,
we learn together.
The library is home,
a beautiful wonder,
where knowledge
is waiting to be found.
Los libros transforman mi
mente a un mundo diferente
llenando mi corazon de amor.
NOISY minds mix with
quiet voices.
Just one more.
REACH for trees with ink.
At the library
it is fun to read a book,
ride the esca-later,
create art to draw,
play checkers,
see the people,
make origami,
watch the puppet show.
Our library is
a place to
come as we are.
