Blu-ray Discs

Blu-ray discs offer video in high definition.  They are the same size as DVDs, but have a much higher storage capacity.  Because of this increased storage ability, blu-ray discs are reputed to have much better sound and video quality.  They must be played on a blu-ray player.  Blu-ray players will also play your standard DVDs.  The Play Station 3 will also play blu-ray discs at full resolution.

Books on CD

Many unabridged works of fiction and non-fiction are available at all library locations. Check out our catalog for a full list of books on CD.

Some titles are available in the MP3-CD format. In addition to playing the MP3-CD audiobooks on MP3-CD players and computer CD drives, you may easily transfer files from a MP3-CD to an MP3 player like the Apple iPod or other devices.

CD-ROMs

The library has a wide variety of interactive multimedia programs for all ages. All are "Windows" titles; however, some are hybrids that may be used with DOS and/or Macintosh systems. This collection was initially made available through a Library Services and Construction Act-Title I Grant administered through the South Carolina State Library.

Downloadable Media

Download music, videos and audiobooks to your personal computer or compatible MP3 device from the comfort of your own home. RCPL has a number of services such as OverDrive that allow anyone with a library card access to a variety of digital titles. RCPL’s digital media collection is available 24 hours a day so you can browse, download and enjoy on your schedule. For more information, take a look at the Downloadable Media page.

DVDs

The library has an extensive collection of DVD titles for your educational and recreational needs. The DVD format may often include numerous extra features, including language options, director commentaries, interviews with cast, etc. The library has maintained some videocassette titles which are not available in the digitized format.

Music on Compact Disc

The library has various genres of music on compact discs, including ballet, big band, blues, classical, country, hip hop, folk/world, holiday, inspirational, jazz, marches, movies/musicals, new age, opera, patriotic, popular, sound effects and wedding.

Playaway

The first self-playing digital audiobook is now available at RCPL. Enjoy digital sound from a lightweight player with eight simple buttons. No cassettes. No CDs. No downloads. Just check it out and hit play. There’s nothing to do but listen. Check our Catalog for a full list of Playaway titles
