Saturday Storytelling for Families

Don't miss this fantastic outdoor event, featuring storytelling, theater and music for all ages. Books by special guest Walter Wick, as well as refreshments, will be available for purchase. Join us under the tent on Hampton Street beside the Main Library! Walter Wick will sign books from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

11 a.m.: Trustus Youth Theatre

The Trustus Youth Theatre will close their inaugural season with a performance from the original script The Meaning of I, written by George Pate-the story of Mary, a young girl with amnesia, and the decisions she is faced with.

11:30 a.m.: Beth Hutchison

Beth Hutchison is a well known traveling storyteller, trainer and mentor, and told stories at the first A(ugusta) Baker's Dozen more than 20 years ago. She is the manager of the Charlotte and Mecklenburg County's Spangler Children's Library at ImaginOn: The Joe & Joan Martin Center. She coordinates the annual Story Vine Festival in Charlotte and has helped develop storytelling festivals across North Carolina.

Noon: Will Sox

Will Sox is a sixth grade honor roll student at Northside Middle School in West Columbia. He has told stories at local, regional and national storytelling events and festivals including the National Storytelling Festival in 2005. Sox was chosen as a finalist at the National Youth Storytelling Showcase in 2005, 2006, 2007 and 2008 and was selected as the age group Torchbearer in 2005 and 2008.

12:30 p.m.: Evelyn Parks

Evelyn Parks has been telling an array of stories for more than 20 years and considers herself a humorous storyteller. She was the main storyteller at the United Way's Olympic Torch Festival, and is the Coordinator for Volunteer and Homebound Services at the Spartanburg County Public Library where she has worked for 30 years.

1 p.m.: Darion McCloud

An accomplished storyteller and actor with more than 11 years experience, Darion McCloud is a favorite of many children and has told in settings ranging from prisons to television. McCloud is a company member of the TRUSTUS Theatre, The South Carolina Shakespeare Company and the NiA Company.

1:30 p.m.: Jim McGaha

Jim McGaha is a storyteller and Youth Specialist with the Public Library of Charlotte and Mecklenburg County where he continually hones and practices his own style of lyrical literacy. He has told stories at many events and festivals, including the Patchwork Tales Storytelling Festival, and has been a featured performer at libraries throughout North and South Carolina.
