1-language.com - The ESL Site
This is a nonprofit web site provided by Jeremy Paton. The site was created for autonomous learners and contains diverse learning tools. There is an online ESL Video Center, online ESL Listening Center, ESL Job Center, ESL Chat, ESL Links and even a help line to post ESL questions. There are Teacher Resources, Quizzes, Flashcards and an ESL Reading Library.

Absolute Beginner English - 20 Point Program
"This 20 point program provides a syllabus to take students from speaking no English at all, to being able to fulfill basic communication needs including; giving personal information, and describing their daily routines and the world around them." (About.com, 2002)

Beginning English for Beginners
"Beginner learning materials include grammar, listening, vocabulary, reading, writing, reference, quizzes and an online course." (About.com, 2002)

Dave's ESL Café
Dave’s ESL Café is an interactive site that is set up for both students and teachers. This site gets over a million hits a month. Dave covers a lot of information and provides a forum for students and teachers to chat. The site has job information, ideas to get students talking, and a Help Center that is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

English as a Second Language
Offers more than 100 stories for online listening as well as many links to ESOL blogs, grammar and pronunciation resource sites, dictionaries and ESOL school web sites.

English-Zone
English-Zone.Com is a fun site filled with information about the English language. This site can be used by people who are learning English as a Second Language or people who are English speakers learning to read or are brushing up on grammar skills. The site is divided into sections such as: Study Zones, Quick Reference, and Fun and Humor. English-Zone even has printable worksheets for students.

National Coalition for Literacy
The coalition was founded in 1981 to create greater public awareness of adult literacy issues, answer literacy-related questions, make referrals by establishing a toll free number and raise funds to support these efforts. (National Literacy Hotline: 1-800-228-8813).

National Institute for Literacy
"The National Institute for Literacy (NIFL) is a federal organization that shares information about literacy and supports the development of high-quality literacy services so all Americans can develop essential basic skills." (nifl.gov, 2002)

Self-Study Quizzes for ESL Students
This site contains quizzes and puzzles for the person who is learning a second language. Most of the tests and games are created for those people learning a second language. This is a fun way to hone up on your skills!

South Carolina Adult and Community Education

New Reader Collection

The Richland County Public Library has a separate New Reader Collection on the first level of the Main Library and at each of the branch libraries. These materials are specifically targeted for those persons who are beginning English readers.
