Nina Idi is an illegal third child in a place where families are only allowed to have two children. After being betrayed by the boy she loved and arrested by the population police for exposing other third children, she is angry and confused. Nina knows one thing for sure; she is innocent. But now she is faced with very difficult decisions. She is assigned to betray her other jailmates. If she didn’t cooperate, they would all be killed.  If she betrayed the three, she would be safe and they would be killed. She couldn’t decide so the four children escape from jail. They survive on vegetables and their fake I.D.s for about three weeks. Lee Grant and Mr. Talbot also hate the population police.  They find the four children and now they are going to fight against the population police until the population police finally give up.

Review:

This book is about a kid who is a third child.   The law says a family can have only two kids.  Some families disobey the law and make the kid hide.  If the police find out they had a third child, they would shoot the kid and the parents would be in a lot of trouble.

In this book, they shot a lot of people.  What they say about how they dispose of the third children and hide the blood is cruel; not to mention the fact that they gave rewards for killing third children.  Some families get fake ids so the child can go to school like their brothers  and sisters.

I do not advise kids under the age of 10 to read this book.   The book feels true because it very sad story and almost seem real.  It makes you feel as if you are in that position.

Among the Hidden

Among the Hidden is about a kid who lives under population laws that says you can only have two kids and he is a third child. If you get caught being a third you will be killed or if the judge is feeling nice you are given a fine of $500,000 which is more than a farm family can pay. It is a good book with a dramatic ending.
