  • Nickelodeon Theater - Columbia, SC - The Nickelodeon is a small art-house theater that shows some fascinating independent and foreign films. Click on their "Calendar of Films" link to view what's showing.

Filmmaking

  • exposure - Interested in making your own films? Check out “the Internet resource for low-budget film-makers." The site includes articles on filmmaking as well as news on film festivals and funding opportunities.
  • Filmmaker Magazine - A selection of articles from the magazine are available on this site. They include interviews with directors, stories about specific films and articles about filmmaking history.

Movies

  • Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences - The expected lists of past Oscar winners in 23 categories can be found here, as well as other interesting tidbits such as the images of the posters for all the films that won a best picture Oscar. The latest news on the award nominations and the upcoming awards ceremony can be found here as well.
  • AFI: American Film Institute - The best part of this site is the list of films that the AFI has continued to compile in celebration of 100 years of American film. These lists include the 100 best American films, best comedies, best romantic films and the best thrillers.
  • All Movie Guide - This site allows the user to search by movie, person or keyword. It also includes a film finder function where a search for a movie title can be narrowed, for example, by entering the names of two people who have been in a film together or the author or title of an original work on which a film is based.
  • Film Threat - ”Recently named one of the top 5 movie web sites by The Wall Street Journal, Film Threat is the number one destination on the Internet for consumers seeking an alternate take about mainstream movies as well as stories on independent and underground cinema.”
  • Internet Movie Database - This is the database for information on film. It includes information on films and actors not only on the big screen, but from television as well. Another very useful function of this site is the search by plot keyword. It can help in finding a film when there is little information available. You can also find movie show times on this site.

  • Billboard Magazine Online - The latest music news is updated daily on this comprehensive site. The Billboard sales charts can be found here, of course, along with album reviews and information on the latest releases.
  • Columbiatunes.com - “The State newspaper's music source”. This site provides reviews, local band profiles and more.
  • Country Music Hall of Fame - The music history section on this site contains a timeline of the history of country music that includes a list of noteworthy artists for each time period. There is also a series of essays on the various genres of country music.
  • MTV - Video killed the radio star
  • Pollstar - The best place to find where your favorite artists are playing or to get a list of live music coming to your city.
  • Radio-Locator - Billed as “the most comprehensive radio station search engine on the internet”. Simply type in your zip code to find area radio station web sites or search by format to find audio streams from radio stations all over the U.S. and the world.
  • Recording Industry Association of America - This site contains a wealth of information on all aspects of the recording industry such as copyright, licensing & royalties and webcasting.
  • The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame - The official website of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum includes info on inductees and exhibits.
  • The Ultimate Band List - UBL is now part of the Artist Direct Network. Though this site is crowded with ads it does contain excellent resources for musicians and fans. Scroll down past the ads at the top of the page to find a comprehensive music search engine and directories of record labels, magazines and e-zines, venues, festivals, radio stations and digital download services.
  • WUSC-FM - “The student-run radio station of the University of South Carolina, Columbia campus. WUSC is a free-format alternative station which provides its listeners with a diverse selection of music from all genres”.
