Jack Gantos, critically acclaimed author of Hole in My Life, will be the featured guest for the 24th annual A(ugusta) Baker’s Dozen—A Celebration of Stories on April 23-24 at the Richland County Public Library in downtown Columbia.

About Hole in My Life, 2003 Robert F. Sibert Honor Book:

As a junior in high school, Jack Gantos lived on his own in a hotel in Puerto Rico.  As a senior, he rented a room from a couple who sold prosthetic limbs for a living.

After that, his life became more complicated.  One thing was certain.  He wanted to become a writer.  How Jack Gantos goes from being a gangly high school graduate to an award-winning author will surprise you. The trip takes him from Florida to St. Croix to New York to prison.

Read Hole in My Life for the full story and don't miss the opportunity to hear Jack Gantos' amazing tales about his life as a writer at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, April 23.  You also don't want to miss Storytelling for Families, featuring regional and local storytellers, from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 24. Both events, which are free and open to the public, will be held at the Main Library.
